Aaron McDonald
Aaron McDonald is a realist artist based in Birmingham, Alabama. Born in Chicago, he was shaped by two generations of creatives who encouraged a respect for craftsmanship and observation from an early age.
He later apprenticed with renowned portrait artist Mark Carder, where he studied the Carder Method and later developed his own disciplined approach to realism and the alla prima technique.
In 2009, Aaron was awarded the Grand Prize at the Energen Art Show, Alabama’s largest art competition, for his painting "Columbine in Moonlight."
His paintings explore the relationship between perspective, atmosphere, color and contrast. Each work invites the viewer to slow down and experience the subtle tension that exists between energy and stillness.
Aaron continues to create his work today and is available for commissioned portraits and other realist works.
